Types of Eyelift Surgery

Have you been considering eyelift surgery? While it is a cosmetic procedure, in certain instances it can be needed to help your eyesight as well. Talking with the optometrist at Utah Valley Eye Center in Provo can help you to decide if you need blepharoplasty surgery. Before taking the leap into getting eyelift surgery we have provided you with the different types of surgery available to you so you have a better idea as to what you may need.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty surgery usually takes 1 to 2 hours to complete and will leave you with a rested and alert look.  Eyelid cosmetic surgery addresses upper-eye droopiness, puffiness and wrinkling which can make you appear tired, older and sometimes even with an unintended expression such as sadness. During the surgery your doctor will makes tiny strategic incisions across the crease of the eyelid. Depending on each patient’s needs, miniscule eye muscles will be appropriately “tightened,” while just enough skin is removed and fat repositioned to create the most natural outcome possible.

Lower Blepharoplasty

This surgery takes place below your eyes where you have under-eye bags. It takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete and will leave you looking brighter and more awake. Age makes the muscles under our eyes weaken, allowing fat to protrude more as time goes by. For some, heavy bags below the eyes create a prominent weary or tired look. Lower blepharoplasty works via tiny incisions that allow the shift of fat deposits and correct loose skin to craft a smoother, more contoured look from the lower lash line down to the mid-face.

Combination Blepharoplasty

This surgery takes upper and lower blepharoplasty surgeries and combines them into one procedure. Since the surgery will be taking place on both the upper and lower eyelids the surgery time can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to complete. Combination blepharoplasty can address both sections of the eye to create a more proportional and youthful appearance. Through microscopic incisions hidden in eye creases or lid lines, we can tighten and remove skin; readjust fat deposits and re-contour muscles for a more refreshed overall look.
