Things to know about eyelid surgery

 In Uncategorized

Eyelid surgery, also referred to as Blepharoplasty, is a surgical process that removes excess eyelid skin to repair droopy eyelids. As you age skin can start to droop as the skin stretches and muscles weaken. This can cause excess fat to gather around your eyelids. This fat can make your eyebrows droop and bags to form under the eye. These effects can make people look older. It can also affect peripheral vision. Getting eyelid surgery can make you look years younger and improve your eyesight. Other procedures can be done at the same time, especially if you are getting blepharoplasty surgery for cosmetic purposes.

– eye irritation

– infection (very rare)

– bleeding

– temporary blurry vision

– vision loss (rare)

– reaction to anesthesia

Recovery

Though Blepharoplasty is not a major surgery you still will have to recover. It is suggested that right after surgery you should put ice on your eyes for 10 minutes every hour. The next day try to use ice four or five times. Patients are fine to be moving but avoid doing any strenuous activities. As hard as it will be, try to avoid rubbing your eyes this will cause irritation. Avoid getting your eyes wet. Baths and showers are fine as long as your eyes are not being exposed to moisture for a long period of time. A few drops of water will not be harmful. When washing hair it would be better to wash in a sink with someone’s help, to avoid your eyes. Contacts wearers should not wear their contacts for around two weeks. If you are experiencing any pain take Tylenol, do not take any medication that could make bleeding worse.
