To those few individuals that have never worn contacts, it could be a little scary. We will guide you through the process and help you in developing a technique that works for you when putting in and taking out your new contact lenses. We have also provided some tips for you to remember below.
Putting in your Lenses
When you first start using contact lenses it may seem a little daunting when it’s time to put them in. Over time you will develop a technique that works for you and before you know it you will be a professional. Your doctor at Utah Valley Eye Center will show you the proper technique for putting in and taking out your lenses. It just takes practice. You will always want to start with the same eye when putting in and taking out your lenses so you don’t get them mixed up. If you are still having difficulty you can ask a friend for help or stop by our office.
Useful Habits
- Check how your contacts are feeling in your eye. If they are hurting or causing any sort of discomfort you may need to clean them and reinsert your lenses.
- Always thoroughly wash your hands and dry them with a lint-free towel before you touch your eyes or contact lenses.
- Don’t rub your eyes. It is easy to touch your eyes without thinking about it, but you don’t want to get any dirt or oil from your fingers in your eyes, or dislodge your lens.
- Don’t wear your contact lenses for longer than instructed by your doctor.
Are your Lenses Bothering You?
If your contact lenses are on your eye correctly you shouldn’t be able to feel them and they won’t be causing you any discomfort. If you find that this isn’t true you will want to make sure they are not placed on your eye inside out. There is also the possibility of having an eyelash or a small piece of dust or dirt on your lenses. If your lenses are damaged or torn this could also be the cause of your discomfort.
Contact lenses do take some time to get used to, but can free you from the burden of having to worry about your glasses. If you find that neither option is working for you, you can always talk to the doctors at Utah Valley Eye Center in Provo about LASIK surgery. Call or stop by our office today to schedule a consultation. No matter what your eye care needs, we have got you covered.
